Searching the Web with your wirless telephone:
A few weeks ago, I posted information about Google and how it now offers a search function via cellular telephones. Well, Yahoo has just jumped into the wireless/web fray and announced today, that the same thing can be done through that portal.
Click here for a breaking Reuters news story about the subject.
A false sense of security:
A recent study has shown that 77 percent of Internet users feel perfectly safe while surfing the Web, even though they have no firewall or anti-virus software installed on their computer. Such foolish thinking will lead to very serious problems.

Keeping your wireless network safe:
CNN is hosting a special feature about wireless network security. The information is directed toward the average home user so it's written in an easy to understand manner. If you do in fact have a wirless network at your home, you need to

New tool from the Google group:
If you visit
desktop.google.com you can download the new "Google Desktop". The new tool is a search engine that runs on your computer. You can type in a keyword and the program will sift through your email, your documents, and your stored Web pages to find what you are looking for. I've tried the service (which is free) and it appears to work really well.
SMS and Google:
Google is now beta-testing a new search service that utilizes SMS (Short Messaging Service), which is a common feature on modern day cell phones.
Click here to read a breaking news story about the service. I tested it out myself and it works great.
Taking a bite out of Spyware:
Two bills have recently passed through the House that make Spyware illegal, the President still has to sign them to make them legal. Supposedly, one of the bills allows for prison time for those individuals held responsible for originating that type of software.

I'm just gonna' maintain a "wait and see" attitude, my gut tells me that although the intentions are good, actually carrying through with them is a whole nuther' enchilada.
Keeping an eye on Mount St. Helens:
Click here to access a Web Cam pointed right at Mount St. Helens. The image updates every 5 minutes.
Great info source for volcanoes:
If you've been following the course of events concerning Mount St. Helens, I've found a really good Web site that you might be interested in. The USGS maintains the Cascades Volcano Observatory Web site at
vulcan.wr.usgs.gov/home.html and it is chock full of valuable information about Mount St. Helens and other volcanoes as well.
By the way, did you know that a large print and enhanced version of my latest book entitled "Mastering Internet Explorer" is now available?

New search engine:
Have you heard of "Clusty"? It's a new search engine @
www.clusty.com - the name is derived from the way in which search results are displayed. Spend a few minutes at the site and you'll see what I mean.
Column Update:
My "Internet Safari" column has been "bumped" from the Clovis News Journal. I'm told that the newspaper prefers to run columns written by local authors only (I've recently relocated to Florida), and that my column really isn't relevent to Clovis readers anyway.
After a brief hiatus, I'll probably begin writing the column again and then just post it to the Web. Check back here occasionally for updates.
New look for Yahoo:
Yahoo has posted a beta-version of its new homepage,
click here to check it out. I like the new layout and I reckon it's time for a change.
