Interesting listening:
The
History Channel Web site contains an archive of live speeches; and radio broadcasts dating back to the 1920's. Just poking around for a few minutes, I learned that a B-25 Bomber crashed into the Empire State Building in NYC, in 1945. You can listen to some of the news broadcasts and some eyewitness reports by
clicking here.
Modern technology is soooooo cool.
Cybercafe Ideas:
If you missed my last column, I asked for e-mails containing ideas of what a "dream cybercafe" would contain. Anyone, who sends in a suggestion will automatically be entered into a prize drawing that will take place toward the end of September. You can e-mail your ideas to tomdifran@ureach.com - I look forward to hearing some of your ideas.
Cybercafe's:
I've mentioned in the past, that Clovis is about to have it's very first Cybercafe. The
Java Loft may be open as early as next month. I've now just read, in the
Mach Meter (the Cannon AFB newspaper) that Cannon is about to have a Cybercafe. What a pleasant coincidence - that should be a nice assest for the base and it's personnel.
Happy surfing!
Another reason to hate spammers:
If you read the
article on Netscapes Web site, you'll see that some professionals believe that the latest "Sobig" virus was initially spread by a SPAMMER, what a surprise, considering that these unmercilous predators send out millions of e-mails daily.
Let the truth be known!
Virus plague:
It seems, as if this past few weeks - the Internet has been infested (above the norm), with viruses. Two good Web sites that will help you keep up with the latest virus informations are:
www.slashdot.org and
www.sarc.com
Information, patches, warnings, - they all abound at these web sites.
It was stated in a recent news story, that right now (as of today, Sept. 21st), one out of 17 emails being transmitted across the Internet, currently contain a virus - that is incredible. I have a couple of e-mail accounts, that have been in use for quite some time - I don't use them, other than to guage how much Spam or virus distribution is taking place. This week, my "Pop" accounts, are averaging the receipt of 20 e-mail arriving a day - that contain a file attachment that is infected with a virus. They just keep popping into my "Inbox".
I do not use an e-mail program on my computer (such as Outlook Express) to check those old accounts - I use a Web interface, that way the emails and the attachments never reside on my computer. That's the main reason I use Web based e-mail accounts - the ultimate protection from virilant emails.
Apology submitted:
I've been just a little remiss about my postings here in this Blog. Wasn't really sure if anyone was even reading my entries, until last night. I received an e-mail chastising me for not having any recent postings - it was a pleasant chastisement. I will endeavor to begin furnishing more frequent postings of valuable information.
Are you addicted to the Internet?
Just
click here to read an item on the CNN Web site that discusses Internet addiction. It's very informative.
